Watch It Wednesday #45
Fungi are incredible organisms having evolved into a multitude of forms over the past billion years. They play a critical role in ecosystems around the world, decomposing materials and recycling nutrients. They range from microscopic, to the largest organism on Earth.
Scientists are increasingly discovering a multitude of ways fungi can be harnessed to help some of the many environmental problems we face. From breaking down organic pollutants in oil products to degrading radioactive materials and toxic metals. There has even been research investigating the potential to use fungi as a building material.
