Since Landsat was first launched in 1972, we have been able to gain an unprecedented look at our impact on the Earth’s surface. One of the most prominent features covering Earth’s landmasses, forests, have been and are disappearing at astounding rates.
Deforestation is an enormous and truly global issue threatening biodiversity, livelihoods, and contributing extensively to climate change. It is primarily driven by our need for soybeans, beef, and especially palm oil.
At COP 26, world leaders pledged to end deforestation by 2030. Let’s hold them, and ourselves accountable.
