During the latest short-term test of the Ocean Cleanup’s System 002 in late September 2021, the team removed over 3.8 tons of plastic from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch!

This is the culmination of almost a decade of work by a multitude of people, first thought up by 18-year-old inventor Boyan Slat and presented at a TedX talk in 2012. It is an incredible and inspiring example of what we are capable of when ideas, human will, and money is put towards solving the most critical environmental issues we face.
